Perhaps what most of us fail to realize, and that probably includes myself, is that while many of us think we are leading or following a healthy diet the truth is rather different.
Let's try and put some perspective into the equation. A good deal of what we buy is processed food and has been refined before we get to eat it. This is the bit where we ought to mention that term 'junk food', namely food that's high in fat and poor in nutrients.
I could and will go on in later posts about numerous other good reasons to take nutritional supplements, but the above point is a good starter.
To see what I mean you only have to read about the alarming growth of obesity in the many countries of the western industrialized world.
But, getting back to the purpose of this post, who amongst us can be certain we're getting the right amounts of nutrients our bodies need to maintain optimum health? Governments give us a guide as to the recommended daily amount of vitamins and minerals that we should aim to consume via our daily diet which helps. There are people like health nutritionists who also dispense advice.
However, the reality is that none of us normal members of the public are experts at knowing if we have eaten enough of or the correct foods today that ticks all the boxes as far as the right amount from each of the vitamin and mineral groups.
With that in mind it's hardly surprising that we are increasingly turning to nutritional supplements to ensure optimum health.
